It was between my junior and senior years in high school. I worked at a department store, because I needed to pay off my used car and to have spending money for the summer. I didn't need much since the
girl I was dating broke up with me before school let out.
I pulled onto the store parking lot at noon, on a hot Saturday. The sun was beating down on me. Even though I had the top down, it wasn't too bad because I had the AC blasting me in the face. As I was securing the top I noticed the bus stop up near the door of the store. I saw a girl get off and recognized her. It was Wendy and she worked in the department next to mine. She waved at me and stood in the shade of the building, apparently waiting for me. She was very good looking, so I hurried and went up to her.
“You working late tonight, too” she asked?
I laughed. “I'm a loser, I have nothing else to do, anyway,” I replied.
She laughed and told me her boyfriend was at the beach this weekend with all his buddies, so working was better than sitting at home. I spent the next couple hours at work trying to figure out a cool way to ask her out after work. I was only seventeen, but I had never had a problem getting a date or asking a girl to go out. My problem was that she was older than me and she had a boyfriend. That was two big-time strikes against me, so I needed a real cool, casual situation to take my shot.
At break time, I walked through her department, hoping to get her to go on break at the same time.. I looked over and she was with a customer, that killed that idea.
