She called my name as I went past. She waved me over and asked if I could help her get something from the back storeroom. Of course, I said yes. In the storeroom I stood at the bottom of the ladder while she climbed up to get whatever she wanted.
She handed down the box and looked at me with squinted eyes.
“Were you looking up my skirt?”
“Absolutely,” I answered.
She laughed. “The reason I got you back here is to ask you for a ride home tonight. I don't want to spend an hour and a half on a bus. I'll treat to a pizza back at my place.”
“That works for me,” I said.
“Don't get too excited, I live very far away and my roommate will be there.”
“It still sounds good to me. I'd rather hang with a friend than go home alone on a Saturday night.”
She gave me a funny look. We went back out on the floor and agreed to meet at my car after work. She sort of solved my asking her out problem, but I'm not sure it was quite the way I wanted it. She got there late.
“I had to get rid of Robert from upstairs. He knew I took the bus and wanted to take me home tonight.”
Robert was a good looking guy that all the girls in the store were drooling over. This told me that she wasn't looking to hook up. Her only comment on him was that she didn't need another guy that was impressed with himself. To me, all this meant that she thought of me as harmless, which put a damper on all my earlier thoughts.
